Two rubbings of the inscription on the sides of the Nestorian (Xi'an) Stele, China, including the names of the priests and monks in Syriac and Chinese, as well as the Chinese inscription added in 1859 regarding a visit to the stele. Each of the rubbing is mounted onto a silk scroll measuring 29 x 246 cm.

The paper connecting the top stave of both scrolls is at risk of disintegration, so care must be taken when unrolling.

The papers consist of two sets of manuscripts and notes:

• Draft Manuscript and Notes towards a book on the Azerbaijan Crisis
• Draft Manuscript and Notes for a book on Old Tehran made by John Cecil Cloake and Margaret Cloake during his posting to Tehran with allied Correspondence.

The Papers of Angus C. Graham include material pertaining to both book and article publications, to reviews written and to his translation, poetry and short story work. It includes correspondence with other academics in his field and with some poets. There is material pertaining to appointments that he has held and conferences attended, notebooks, diaries and a single photograph. There is also a considerable volume of others' articles and some material concerning others' academic appointments.

The records of the Public School Medal cover the institution of the medal and the conferment of the Honour in subsequent years. They include examples of the medal, an original Declaration of Trust, and subsequent printed versions of the declaration; correspondence and newspaper cuttings. However there are not records for all instances of the presentation of the Medal. Researchers are advised to also examine the Council Minutes and the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society (both held in the RAS Collections) when researching concerning the Public School Medal and its recipients.

These Papers are mainly concerned with excavations undertaken by David Stronach and John Hansman at Šahr-e Qumis in 1971 and 1976, and by David Stronach at Pasargadae in 1963. There is also the manuscript for Hansman's book, "Julfār, an Arabian Port", and more recent correspondence between Hansman and RAS Archivist, Nancy Charley.

Programme of the Gala Performance of the film 'An Eastern Odyssey' held in the presence of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales in aid of the Royal National Life-boat Institution (RNLI) at the Plaza Theatre, London, on 13 November 1934. This is a printed programme with a message from the Prince, information concerning the Citroën Trans-Asiatic Expedition and details of the film, An Eastern Odyssey, made as a record of the expedition. The final page of the programme lists Patrons of the RNLI and the Committee of the Gala performance.

With the programme is a ticket for the Royal Circle, Seat C9, at the Plaza Theatre and a card giving notification of the dress code for the evening.

Drawn on a scale of 2 miles to 1 inch. Mounted on linen with red border. Measures 94 cm wide x 33 cm high.

A printed facsimile of Book Six of the Chinese classical book Book of Documents (Shujing) in the format of a scroll, with added typographical marks in red. This version of the text was originally copied and annotated by Nakahara Yasutaka in 1330, and this facsimile was published by Toyo Bunko in 1939. This scroll is number 255 of a limited edition of 300 copies, and is accompanied by a thread-bound booklet containing explanatory text of the reproduction and the book.

The cardboard case in which the scroll was originally stored contains a printed title label and is inscribed ‘No 660 Shu Ching (BK 6. Facsimile reproduction)’. This refers to number 660 in Shelley Wang’s Chinese catalogue. The case has disintegrated into two pieces.

The scroll measures 930cm (w) x 25cm (h).

A reproduced rubbing of the calligraphy of the Chinese poem ‘Rhapsody on the Luo River Goddess’ (洛神賦), signed by the Qing scholar Hu Gaowang (1730?-1798) in 1766, mounted onto a hanging silk scroll. The scroll measures 35cm (w) x 91cm (h).

Inscribed ‘This is a great curiosity’ at the top of the back of the scroll. A note, containing a free translation of the poem in English, was originally rolled into the scroll but has now been separated and stored together. At the back of it is two notes stating: ‘Translated by Harry Parkes’ and ‘The original roll was taken in a Piratical Junk by H. M. S. Rattler in Namguan Harbor. May 1853.’ Both the inscription and the notes are signed ‘A. M.’.
