He writes that he gave money to the Darbar of Manipur in December 1946 to support studies in Manipuri history. He further writes that colleges and younger scholars in Manipur are taking an interest in Manipuri history and their old language but he feels that more trained scholarship is needed. In the letter, Duncanson thanks the intended recipient for having offered observations regarding the book, Government and Revolution in Vietnam, to his relative, Richard A. May. Duncanson writes that he believes the study of Vietnam is "a mortification of the flesh" and that he is destined to pursue it indefinitely. He also writes that he is now working on his second book on Vietnam, which is more about the North than the South.
