The Society's collections hold two Jambudvipa - RAS Cat.065.001 and RAS Cat.069.001. The information about these is:

• 'Royal Asiatic Society, Number 065.001, Jambudvipa, a Jain map of the universe, c.1830' - an article by Dr Nalini Balbir concerning this item. Also with this is another article by Balbir, 'Jain Yantra kept at the Royal Asiatic Society', dated January 2012.
• 'Science Museum: 5000 years of Science and Innovation - Illuminating India' - advertising brochure for the exhibition in which the Society's Jambudvipa is featured, 2017-2018.
• 'The Silk Road to Silicon Valley - 5000 years of Indian innovation' - copy of an article from The Times, 3 October 2017 concerning the Science Museum exhibition in which the Jambudvipa was shown.

The painting of Madhu Rao Narayan, the Maratha Peshwa, with Nana Fadnavis (RAS Cat.01.014) by James Wales is the largest painting within our Collections. The material associated with it is:

• 'The Indian Mutiny and British Painting' by Brian Allen in Apollo, the International Magazine of the Arts, September 1990 which featured the painting on the front cover of the magazine and within the article.
• Single page from a French journal featuring the painting, undated.
• Colour postcard of the painting created by the National Portrait Gallery, undated.
• '"Take All of Them": Eclecticism and the Arts of the Pune Court in India, 1760-1800' by Holly Shaffer, from The Art Bulletin, June 2018 which featured the painting in the article and on the front cover.

Material concerned with the photographic collections held by the Society:

• List of the photographs within the Aurel Stein collections and the expeditions with which they were associated. Typed, 2 pieces, undated.
• 'Report on two rolls of film from the archives of the Royal Asiatic Society 10/12/98' by Ken Walton and Stuart Laidlaw describing the contents (Reginald Campbell Thompson's excavation in Nineveh) and the type and condition of the film. With this is a letter from J.E. Reade, British Museum, dated 18 February 1999, also giving details of the film, and an article sent by Ken Walton on the excavation.
• Programme for the visit to the Royal Asiatic Society by the Courtauld Institute of Art Summer School at which the photographs of Ajanta, Amaravati and Sanchi were investigated. The visit took place on 31 July 2008.
• Article and covering letter from Akiyoshi Tani, University of Tokyo, in which the Howell Collection of photographs were featured. The letter is dated 27 August 2013.
• Copy of the Hokkaido News, 7 December 2016 which carries an article about the Howell Collection of photographs.

Most of the Society's objects were dispersed to other collections at an early stage of its history. However a few remain. Information about them is:

• Suit of armour - correspondence about a suit of Asian armour within its collections and the likely provenance. Typed and handwritten, 9 pieces, dated 6 December 1930 - M may 1932 (see RAS COLL8/5 for more information about its conservation).
• Notes on an Arabic Celestial Globe and a Phoenician tombstone - both transferred to the British Museum, Typed, 1 piece, undated.
• Correspondence between Professor J. Ryckmans and the Royal Asiatic Society concerning South Arabian inscriptions within the collections. Typed and handwritten, 20 pieces, dated 19 July 1977 - 17 February 1978.
• The Council Room Table - two articles: 'The New Council Room Table' by Alison Ohta extracted from a Society newsletter, unknown date; and 'The Jhansi Table', article originally written 3 October 2012, archival document created in 2025.
• Bookmarks for 'Statue of Zhenwu, the Dark Warrior' and 'Arrow Vase from ritual to game', objects lent to the Society but the Horniman Museum as part of the Objects in Focus project. The statue was lent in autumn 2016 and the vase in autumn 2018.
• 'Collecting Oriental and Asiatic Arms and Armour: The Activities of British and East India Company Officers,c.1800-1850' by Malcolm Mercer - a copy of the article first published in Arms and Armour, 2018. This gives background information to our suit of armour.
• Gravestone of Sir Stamford Raffles - the Society took in this gravestone in 2018. The note, 'Provenance of the Raffles gravestone donated to the Royal Asiatic Society on 11 May 2018' (created in 2018, archival document created in 2025) give details of its provenance. 'Two Tombstones, One Man' by Rosie Llewellyn Jones, an article in the Chowkidar, Autumn 2018, the publication for the British Association for Cemeteries in South Asia.
• 'Information about Japanese gravestones provided by Yang Fu, 12 October 2018' - interpretation details for the inscriptions on the gravestones. Electronic document created in 2018, archival document created in 2025.
• Black and white photographs and descriptions of the copper plate inscriptions belonging to the Society on permanent loan to the British Museum.

The signed Minutes and some associated correspondence of the Meetings of the Royal Asiatic Society's Finance and Investment Committees.

Signed minutes of the Finance Committee, 1965-1977, 1979-1980. The typed minutes are pasted into a hardcover ruled notebook with black cover and red binding. This is labelled as "Finance Committee (incorporating Investment, Possessions and Development Committees)". With this minute book is some correspondence:

• Correspondence concerning Membership and subscriptions, 15 items, dated 21 May 1965-23 September 1965.
• Correspondence concerning investment as a charity, 3 items, dated 6 March 1967-10 March 1967.

Minutes, notes and correspondence concerned with the Investment Committee that was set up by the Council in September 1981. These are:

• Notes on a conversation with Dr Ware regarding power of the Council to invest the Society's money. Signed by G.A. Calver, dated 24 September 1980.
• Royal Asiatic Society: Investment Policy, dated 12 March 1981.
• Letter from G.A. Calver to Eric Southall to state that at the last Council Meeting it was agreed to set up an Investment Committee of these two plus Simon Digby, dated 8 September 1981.
• Letter from Eric Southall to G.A. Calver to state that he would be willing to serve on an Investment Committee, dated 12 September 1981.
• Letter from Eric Southall to G.A. Calver to send a draft memorandum concerning the Society's investments, dated 11 February 1982.
• Letter from Eric Southall to Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to enclose a memorandum on the Investment Policy, dated 11 March 1982.
• Minutes of Investment Sub-Committee Meeting of 22 March 1982.
• Minutes of Investment Committee Meeting held at 56 Queen Anne St London on Thursday 14th October '82 at 6pm.
• Minutes of an Investment Committee meeting on 21st October 1982 at 56 Queen Anne St at 2pm.
• Minutes of the Investment Sub-Committee held on 10th January 1983 at 4.30pm.
• Financial Decision of Library Committee 12/1/83 countersigned by G.A. Calver, Hon Treasurer, 14 January 1983.
• Thoughts on RAS transactions, signed by Calver, dated 29 April 1983.
• Minutes for Investment Committee, 28 September 1983.
• Minutes of a Meeting of the Investment Committee on Monday 21st May [1984].
• Minutes of the Meeting of the Investment Committee held on Monday 29th October 1984.

Signed Minutes of the Finance Committee from 18 April 1985-11 May 1988, and from 19 March 1992-27 May 2004. These are contained with a black hardcover notebook with label "Finance Committee". Also a small amount of correspondence pertinent to the Committee. These are:

• Letter from James [Selwyn] to Denis Duncanson to send his calculations concerning the cost of a possible move to Queen's Gardens, dated 31 March 1997.
• Letter from J.A. Payne to Dr MacDowell to inform him that at the recent Council Meeting it was suggested that a Finance Committee be formed and that he had taken the liberty of suggesting MacDowell, dated 2 March 1992.

The signed minutes for the Investment Sub-Committee from 28 September 2000, when it was inaugurated for regularly reviewing the Society's investments with the Society's Stockbroker, to 13 March 2003. These are pasted into a maroon hardcover notebook with label "Investment Sub-Committee 2000 -".
