Letter from Bertram Thomas to Colonel Hoysted, Secretary of Royal Asiatic Society, with which he sends his lecture (not present) but writes that he is unable to check the proofs as he will be leaving the country for some months. He has send a copy to Professor Margoliouth who chaired the evening and presented the medal to Thomas, who will make any necessary revisions.

"Great Desert Crossing. 900 Miles by Camel. Bertram Thomas's Discoveries. A Salt Lake" Letter from Bertram Thomas to the Times, detailing his 900 mile crossing by camel of the Rub 'al Khali. Includes accounts of discoveries including the phenomenon of singing sands and a salt water lake in the desert. Also "Importance of the Discoveries" a comment from Sir Arnold Wilson (recipient of the Burton Memorial Medal in 1937).

Three notes in the Secretary of the Royal Asiatic Society, Colonel Hoysted's hand. These are:

  • Note on 1934 selection committee appointed by the Council.
  • Note on Council Meeting of 12 April 1934 when no suggestions were given for a suitable recipient to be awarded the medal.
  • Note to state that at the meeting of 14 June 1934 the name of Miss Freya Stark was recommended by the Committee.
