He praises Hodgson's works on Buddhism and discusses Buddhist topics including Northern Buddhism, and four philosophical schools. He writes about his work in progress relating to the history of Buddhism in the Dutch language, promising to send a copy of the book immediately after publication. Kern writes about the memory of his friend Brian Nahuys who had made Kern acquainted with Hodgson's name. Hodgson's title note with date of receipt on the front of the accompanying envelope.
