Letter from Peter Skelton to W.E.D. Allen in which he writes of a forthcoming C.A.S. dinner and discusses Mango's translation of Russian Embassies. He suggests that Allen put forward a proposal for a second volume to the Council of the Hakluyt Society and that the switch to Cambridge University Press has much increased the sales of the Society. He is pleased with Allen's choice of collaborator for Evliya, thanks him for the Russian catalogue and his news on the Arabic globe in Naples. Dated: 19 June 1958.

Allen to Peter Skelton in which Allen requests clarification on their meeting He also writes about Sir Hamilton Gibb's proposal to find someone to translate the Egyptian section of Evliya Celebi and that Allen thought somebody at Durham University was already working on it. He regrets that he has not got a copy of the book Skelton requires but suggests a good bookseller in Rome where he may be able to obtain it. Dated: 14 July 1958.

Letter from Victor Louis Ménage to W.E.D. Allen discussing Celebi's volumes on Yugoslavia and proposing redoing the original text in Modern Turkish before translating it to English. Ménage also discusses different versions of the text that were censored or modified at the time and how this difference could be addressed critically by the editors. Dated: 4 April 1960.

Letter from W.E.D. Allen to Victor Louis Ménage in which Allen discusses existing translations of Celebi's first three volumes by Von Hammer which he praises. He also discusses issues arising from the unwillingness of Turkish authorities to help in presenting Celebi's work for political reasons including his favorable depictions of Armenians and Kurds as well as the reality of his Ottoman identity which Allen feels clashes with the new more European identity contemporary Turks prefer to adopt. Dated: 23 April 1960.

Letter from Victor Louis Ménage to W.E.D. Allen with which Ménage sends Allen a copy of the Serbo-Croat Celebi text which Allen had previously requested (copy of this not included in folder). Ménage also writes of his frustrations in trying to obtain photographs from the Turkish authorities though he is trying to give them a boost and priase their efforts at restoration. Dated: 14 May 1960.
