Correspondence concerning the legacy given to the Royal Asiatic Society from the estate of Louise Hawley Stone, dated 17 June 1997 - 7 February 1998.

This series consists of correspondence between the Lorimers and Sidney Duly, manuscripts concerning the Gilgit Expedition; and some printed articles by the Lorimers. There is also a letter from Duly to Richard Pankhurst, RAS LIbrarian, to donate the material to the Royal Asiatic Society.

The Series contains correspondence and notes by David Lockhart Robinson Lorimer to aid Roland Carter on a tour of the Gilgit region in 1946. There are also some notes that Carter made to try to answer Lorimer's queries and letters from "local notables" in Urdu. There is a further letter from Carter to Miss Nielsen, Royal Asiatic Society, to send the material for its Collections.

"Lord Beaconsfield. A Sketch. By Captain Richard F. Burton". [1882] On the fly-leaf “Given to me by Mr Francis Hitchman; the biographer of Lord Beaconsfield. Only 25 copies printed. R. Garnett.” Green quarter and corners leather, green and black marbled boards. Ex libris: Archibald Philip, Earl of Rosebery.

The Society, in its history, has lent various of its collections to institutions on long term loans either because of specialist care needs of the items or because of a particular interest in the collections by the lending institution. The material in this series is the correspondence and documentation connected with these long term loans.
