Letter from Richard Clarke, Secretary, to John Gould, to thank for a sight of his 'exquisitely beautiful work on the birds of Asia' but, with regret, to tell him that the state of the Society's funds will not allow them to purchase the same even though it would be 'of great value and interest to the library'. Letter from Richard Clarke, Secretary, to Joseph Calverly, Collector of Metropolitan Services, in response to his request for payment of £6.18.0 but to inform, that under a Victorian Act of Parliament, the Society is exempt from 'all parochial rates'. (Found on page 145)

Letter from Richard Clarke, Secretary, to James Cosmo Melvill, Secretary, East India Company to to inform that the Society has received from Nizam of Hyderabad two copies of a Persian manuscript, Hadikit ul Salam, and they would like to offer one copy to the East India Company. Also the Society has heard from a Dr Nicholson about the relics of a city in Gujerat near [Bowneygar in Kathyrwar] which may throw light on ancient Hindu history. The Society therefore suggests that excavations be undertaken in the area. (Found on page 145)
