The manuscript can be devided into two sections:

  • 1) the English translation of the first verses of the first 30 jātakas of the Theravāda Jātaka canon (around 547 jātakas in total), including the original Sinhalese text on the right page side
  • 2) the first verses of the next 44 jātakas (31-74) that are left untranslated.
    The notebook is written in Gogerly's hand before November 6, 1847 in Sri Lanka (Ceylon). The first section is 7 pages, while the second one - 11 pages. The English translation includes the jātakas as follow: Apaṇṇaka, Vaṇṇupatha, Serivāṇija, Cullaka-seṭṭhi, Taṇḍulanāli, Devadhamma, Kaṭṭhahāri, Gāmani, Makhādeva, Sukhavihāri, Lakkhaṇa, Nigrodhamiga, Kaṇḍina, Vātamiga, Kharādiya, Tipallatthamiga, Māluta, Matakabhatta, Āyācitabhatta, Naḷapāna, Kuruṅga, Kukkura, Bhojājānīya, Ājañña, Tittha, Mahilāmukha, Abhiṇha, Nandivisāla, Kaṇha, Muṇika. The item is slightly fragile. 24.3cmX18.6cm.

Notebook containing catalogue entries of the Assyrian letters inscribed on clay tablets that were found at the excavations led by Max Mallowan, archaeologist and academic, at Nimrud, Iraq in 1952. Each entry records the measurements of the clay tablet, number of lines on it and the location at which it is found, running from the reference numbers ND 2350 to ND 2499, and from ND2601 to ND 2803. The writing is in several different hands so was probably compiled by the members on the excavation team led by Mallowan.

Note written by Hodgson asking an unknown assistant to translate to English the German entries of four of Klaproth's bilingual vocabulary lists (in Asia Polyglotta, vol. I, pp. 89-137), namely German-Ossetic, German-Armenian, German-Georgian and German-Laz. The resulting work can be consulted at BHH/6/1/6. Handwritten, 1 piece, 1 side, undated.

"Note. Gold Found while fishing at Batu Lintang River in Mukim Simpor In the Distrct of Kuala Muda" Typed letter, from Mohamed Sheriff bin Osman, Secretary to the State Council, date: 16/06/1914. The letter concerns a boy who found an ancient gold belt and sold it to the goldsmith. Unfortunately, the belt should have become Government property to be kept in the State treasury, but it had already been melted.
