Letter from Godfrey Thomas, Private Secretary, to Lord Reay, President, Royal Asiatic Society, to inform that the Prince of Wales (the future Edward VIII) would be unable to attend a dinner at the Society prior to him leaving for India. Typed with St James's Palace letterhead, dated 15 July 1921.

Letter from Colonel Clive Wigram, Keeper of the Privy Purse, to the President of the Royal Asiatic Society to inform that His Majesty has agreed to grant his Patronage to the Society.

Two letters concerning the death of George VI.

• A copy of the letter sent from the President of the Royal Asiatic Society to Her Majesty, the Queen-Mother, to express their deep sympathy at the death of her husband, George VI, dated 14 February 1952.
• Letter from Private Secretary, Buckingham Palace, to the President of the Royal Asiatic Society to thank, on behalf of the Queen Mother, the Society for its message of condolence, dated 21 February 1952. These two letters have been glued together in their left top corner.

The material within this series includes a Supplemental Charter, correspondence regarding the Queen's Patronage, correspondence regarding the deaths of her parents, correspondence regarding her relinquishment of the Patronage, and material regarding Buckingham Palace Garden Parties.

Supplement Charter from Elizabeth the Second to the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland, to remove some of the wording from the original Charter of 1824. The Charter measures 46cm by 32 cm and the seal has a diameter of 16cm. The charter is housed within a presentation box.

A series of four letters concerned with sending condolences on the death of George VI and asking Elizabeth II to be the future Patron of the Royal Asiatic Society. These items have been affixed together. They are listed in the order they appear:

• Copy of a letter from the Director (Sir Richard Winstedt), Royal Asiatic Society, to The Right Honorable Sir Ulick Alexander, Keeper of the Privy Purse, Buckingham Palace, to ask whether her Majesty would be pleased to be the Patron of the Society. Typed, 1 piece, dated 13 May 1952
• Copy of an Address from the President, Council and Members of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland to Her Most Gracious Sovereign to offer their sympathy upon the death of her father and to ask for her Patronage. Typed, 2 pieces, dated 20 February 1952
• Letter from R. Lloyd Thomas, Home Office, to the Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society. to inform that the matter of Patronage should be taken up with the Keeper of the Privy Purse. Typed with printed letterhead, 1 piece, dated 8 May 1952
• Letter from Ulick Alexander, Keeper of the Privy Purse, to the Director, Royal Asiatic Society, to inform that Her Majesty will grant her Patronage to the Society. Typed with printed letterhead, 1 piece, dated 22 July 1952

Two letters concerning a gift from the Society on the 40th anniversary of her accession and concerning her withdrawal of patronage. These are:

• Letter from Kenneth Scott, Buckingham Palace to A.D.H. Bivar, President, Royal Asiatic Society, to thank the Society, on behalf of the Queen, for the letter and the Catalogue of the Art Collection of the Society sent to Her Majesty on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of her Accession. Typed, with printed letterhead, 1 piece, dated 15 May 1992.

• Letter from Simon Gimson, Buckingham Palace, to Lydia Collins, Secretary to Royal Asiatic Society, to inform, that with considerable regret the Queen has decided that her Patronage must draw to a close. She wishes to give time for them to find a new Patron so will withdraw her Patronage from the beginning of 2000. She has raised the matter with the Prince of Wales, the Society's Vice-Patron and he would be delighted to accept the Patronage if this is what the Society would like to request. Typed with printed letterhead, 1 piece, dated 22 April 1996.

Correspondence regarding the death of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. These are:
