A Special General Meeting was held on 10 May 1990 for the adoption of new Byelaws on entry procedure and on 10 October 1991 for a change to the Byelaw concerning the auditors of the Society. On 9 December 1993 the Meeting was held to consider the resolutions concerning disposal of the Society's assets. A further Special General Meeting was held on 14 May 1998 for further amendments of the Byelaws. The material is:

The material in this catalogue was formed in the administration of the Governance of the Royal Asiatic Society. They include Reports and Statements, Correspondence concerned with both internal and external business, Attendance Books, Records of use of the Society's Seal, examples of emblems and seals, and some other ephemera.

At irregular intervals short histories and statements concerning the activities of the Society have been produced for promotional purposes. Many of these are undated but an approximate date can be estimated from their contents. The statements available are:

• ‘Memorandum respecting the Royal Asiatic Society, for circulation in Egypt’. A printed memorandum reaffirming the role of the Society in the study of Egyptian subjects as well as calling for papers or communications from Egypt. Undated but the memorandum was adopted by the Council on 7 March 1910, 3 copies.
• An account of the Society's activities with an accompanying letter from George A. Grierson, dated 8 March 1923. Typed and handwritten, 13 pieces
• 'An Extract from the Indian Pioneer Mail' concerning the Royal Asiatic Society. Typed, 2 pieces.
• A handwritten account of the Society's activities, 2 pieces c.1920.
• A statement of the history, aims and objectives of the Society, enclosed in a letter from Col. Hoysted, RAS Secretary, to the magazine News Review. The letters are present with the statement. Typed, two letters and one statement, dated 10-11 March 1937.
• Handwritten and typed information regarding the Society’s history, activities and membership, prepared on request by The Committee to Study Progressive Movements. One letter and six pieces of notes, dated 14 April 1937.

During the Administration of the Society reports are often created either to prepare for a forthcoming meeting of the Council or sub-committee or to report back after such a meeting. Occasionally reports are created for external purposes. These reports, or summaries thereof, are often incorporated into the Minutes of the Meetings. Early correspondence connected to the governance of the Society. These are:

• Letter from James Tod, Librarian, Royal Asiatic Society, to William Huttman, Secretary to the Committee for Correspondence, Royal Asiatic Society, concerning the contacts he had made with European oriental Societies with the letters of introduction he had taken. Handwritten, 6 sides, dated 3 March 1827.
• 'The Memorial of the President, Director, Vice-Presidents, and Council of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland' to 'The Right Honourable Sir Robert Peel, Bart. M.P. First Lord of the Treasury, Chancellor of the Exchequer' to request that the Government might grant them use of a Public Building and in particular the recently vacated premises of the Royal Academy of Painting, dated 28 March 1835, printed material, 2 copies.
• Letter from Henry St George Tucker (1771–1851) to Sir George Staunton (1781-1859) concerning an Agricultural branch for the interchange of useful plants between England and India, and concerning Staunton's application for a House, offering space in "this great House... if the Society could migrate so far east".
