A set of handwritten copies of Sanskrit inscriptions and some English translations. These include:

• 'Translation of an inscription found in one of the Palitana Temples of Kattywar (Kathiawar) by Capt. Geo. LeGrand Jacob 1937'. This is the title on a handwritten small blue label. Under the title is written 'Not worth printing, HHW' (Horace Hayman Wilson). The document itself consists of 8 sides - 4 of these are of the translation of the inscription on stone, signed by Jacob and dated 6 February 1837. Under the translation is a further note in a different hand about the lack of historical value of this inscription. The following 3 pages give notes regarding the inscription, again signed by Jacob and dated 24 February 1837. The final page is headed 'Private note' which suggests if published the writer rather than the Society takes responsibility for the content. This is signed J.W.
• 'Inscription on the most ancient of the Jain Temples at Palitana in Kattywar bearing dates of [Samoat] 1582 for the foundation and 1587 for the completion'. This is signed by George LeGrand Jacob, Government Political Agent, Kattywar. This is a lengthy handwritten inscription in Sanskrit, possible the Sanskrit version of the translation above.
• 'Sanskrit rendering of Copperplate Inscription found near Palitana in Kattywar (Kathiawar) deciphered by J. Prinsep' with further note 'NB. The plate is incomplete only one leaf of the tablet having been found'. A handwritten copy in Sanskrit of the inscription.
• 'Translation by Mr J. Prinsep, Sec. of Calcutta As. Soc., of Copper tablet inscription found near the Hill of Palitane in Kattywar' A single sheet of English translation. Further writing on the reverse of the translation indicate it was received by the Royal Asiatic Society in November 1839 and read at their General Meeting on 7 November 1839.
• Four short Sanskrit inscriptions numbered 1-4 in English numerals and titled '[Biluspoor] (Bilaspur?) near Kutah and indicating they are family documents.
• A single sheet of a Sanskrit inscription labelled '[Chundrabhagu]'.
• A large sheet of Sanskrit writing with illegible title in English but probably bearing the number 1216.
• A large sheet with what appears to be a genealogical table in Sanskrit with accompanying. English translation. The sheet also bears Sanskrit phrases with English translation.

Documents connected to H.H. Wilson. These are:

• An Analytical Account of the Panchatantra
• Notes on the Vishnu Purana
• Copies of letters sent to and from H.H. Wilson concerning the allowance of the late Colonel Wilford.

A manuscript of the 'Analytical Account of the Pancha Tantra illustrated with occasional Translation by H.H. Wilson, Surgeon on the Bengal Establishment, Secretary to the Asiatic Society of Bengal and Member of the Asiatic Societies of London and Paris'. A further note on the opening page records that this manuscript was read at the General Meetings of the Royal Asiatic Society on 15 May and 5 June 1824. It was subsequently published in the Transactions of the Society.

This is a handwritten manuscript giving an account of the Panchatantra, the ancient Indian collection of animal fables in Sanskrit verse and prose, arranged within a frame story. The manuscript bears considerable annotation by both Wilson and another hand, probably that of Henry Thomas Colebrooke. There is also a Note appended to the end of the manuscript by Colebrooke. The manuscript is contained within a unlined notebook 32 x 20 cm, of which the front cover is missing.

'The Vishnu Purána Translated by H.H. Wilson, London 1840' - a handwritten manuscript containing a preface and introduction to all the puranas, followed by descriptions of the Contents of the Vushnu Purána for the 22 chapters of Book One and the first seven chapters of Book 2. It is unclear whether this manuscript was created by H.H. Wilson or copied at a later date. The notebook is only partially filled.

Handwritten within an unlined notebook 20 x 16cm with marbled boards and quarter leather binding. It contains some of the material subsequently published in the Works by the Late Horace Hayman Wilson, M.A., F.R.S.,

'Copy of Correspondence between the Secretary to the Bengal Government and H.H. Wilson Esquire relative to the appropriation of the allowance of the late Col. Wilford of Rs.1218 per month for the purpose of forming an Establishment in India for the prosecution of Researches into the Literature, History etc. of the Hindus'. This correspondence comprises of:

• Letter from H.H. Wilson to the Marquis of Hastings in which he enquires whether the allowance originally granted to the late Lieutenant Colonel Wilford for his enquiries into the Literature, Antiquity, Religion and History of the Hindus may be continued to be used for further study by other of the Company's servants. He sets out possible conditions around the use of the money. Dated 11 December 1822, 3 sides.
• Letter from C. Lushington, Acting Chief Secretary to the Government, to H.H. Wilson in which he replies on behalf of the Governor General to the effect that the Governor General is in agreement with Wilson's proposal and asks that Wilson himself will provide the appropriate detail as to how to form an Establishment for Hindu studies. Dated 31 December 1822, 1.2 sides.
• Letter from H.H. Wilson to C. Lushington in which he provides the details of his thoughts on creating an Establishment and his opinion of the necessity for the study of Sanskrit works. He gives a breakdown of how the allowance might be spent and also reflects that the Establishment of the late Colonel Mackenzie might also be combined with the one he is proposing. Dated 20 January 1823, 7 sides.
• Extract of a letter from the Chief Secretary to H.H. Wilson in which he informs that Wilson's arrangements have been sanctioned by the Government. Dated 30 January 1823, 0.3 sides.

The final page of the document bears the title of the document and the dates of the first and last letter. It also bears the stamp of the Royal Asiatic Society and the details of the presentation by Doyle.

The Papers of Ram Raz contain an incomplete draft of his Essay on the Architecture of the Hindus with an associated letter from H.H. Wilson to Captain Harkness, Royal Asiatic Society. The papers also contain a 'Translation of a Hukamnamah or a Code of Rules enacted by the late Tippoo Sultan, the Sovereign of Mysore for the conduct of his Amilders'.

The original draft of 'Essay on the architecture of the Hindús' written by Ram Raz. The draft is incomplete beginning at page 13. With the draft is a letter from Horace Hayamn Wilson to Captain Henry Harkness, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, in which Wilson thanks Harkness for sending a note written by Ram Raz concerning the date of the foundation of the Pandyan monarchy. Hayman is not convinced by Ram Raz's argument. This is dated 1 September 1835.

These Papers consists of letters sent by orientalists and literary figures to Bernard Quaritch, mainly concerning the obtaining or selling of oriental literature.

A manuscript of an 'Abstract Translation of an Inscription on Copper Plates found in the Fort of Miruj. Dated saka 946, or A.D. 1025' by Mr Wathen. This is annotated by H.H. Wilson. A copy of the inscription is also with the translation. This particular translation was published in the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society, 1836 (2), pp.258-271. An explanatory article of William Henry Wathen's work on inscriptions in India was published in JRAS 1835, pp.378-399 and includes remarks by Horace Hayman Wilson.
