The majority of administrative correspondence is only kept for its working life. This series contains representative samples of the types of administrative letters and those considered to be of archival value, dating from 1901 to the current day.

Correspondence regarding possible publications to commemorate the Royal Asiatic Society's sesquicentenary. These are:

• Correspondence concerning a possible donation from Sir John Galvin towards a publication to commemorate the Society's sesquicentenary. These include correspondence with Professor Arberry, Harold Bailey, and R.J. Hayes, concerning contacting Galvin; correspondence with John Galvin himself; and correspondence with W.E.D. Allen concerning his influence on Galvin. 11 items, dated 26 May 1966 - 29 April 1971.
• Correspondence with Professor E.G. Turner concerning the possibility of the Union Academique Internationale being involved in publication of a facsimile of the Society's Jami'al-tawarikh manuscript. 7 items, dated 27 July 1971 - 7 October 1971.
• Correspondence with Professor David Talbot Rice to ask whether he would be involved in the publications of the Rashid al-Din manuscript. 3 items, dated 4 October 1971- 19 March 1972.
• Correspondence between B.W. Robinson and Charles Beckingham concerning his chapter for "The Royal Asiatic Society: Its History and Treasures" on the history of the Society. 6 items, dated 12 January 1972 - 5 June 1972.
• Correspondence concerning the article by C.E.J. Whitting on Sir Richard Burton for "The Royal Asiatic Society: Its History and Treasures". 5 items, dated 5 June 1972 - 27 July 1972.
• Letter to Douglas Barrett concerning contributing an article on the Society's boundary stone from Java for the "The Royal Asiatic Society: Its History and Treasures", dated 9 November 1972.
• Correspondence concerning the administration and editing of "The Royal Asiatic Society: Its History and Treasures". 4 items, dated 18 August 1972 - 13 November 1972.
• Letter from A.D.H. Bivar to Diana Crawford, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, concerning a donation toward the preparation of a Numismatic Index to the Society's Journal, dated 21 October 1972.
• Letter from B.W. Robinson to Professor H.L. Shorto to ask if he would include an article concerning the Royal Asiatic Society's sesquicentenary in the Bulletin for SOAS, dated 5 May 1972.
• Letter from Dr J. G. de Casparis, SOAS, communicating his disappointment that the Society has approached someone else to write a piece on old Javanese sculpture in the commemorative volume, despite having been asked to do so. With a reply from Dennis Duncanson to clarify the misunderstanding. Two letters, dated 15 Janaury-4 February 1973.
• Letter from Simon Digby to Stuart Simmonds saying that he has received an admirable article from John van Lohuizen, dated 24 April 1974.
• Letter from E. de Unger to Stuart Simmonds offering to contribute to the Society's appeal and expressing willingness to assist with the publication of the commemorative volume. With a copy reply. Two letters, dated 19-25 April 1974.
• Letter from B. W. Robinson to Stuart Simmonds, RAS President, regarding the use of British Library’s images of the Rashid al-Din manuscript in Basil Gray’s publication, dated 6 December 1974
• Letters with Miss Norah M. Titley, British Library, regarding revisions to her article on RAS Persian 248a written for the sesquicentenary issue of JRAS, and subsequent delivery of a complimentary copy of the sesquicentenary volume to the contributors. Three letters, dated 16 January 1978-16 November 1979.
• Letter from Dr Bengt Peterson, Sweden, asking whether a special price for The Royal Asiatic Society: Its History and Treasures will be offered to fellows, undated.
• Letters between Charles Beckingham and the Marc Fitch Fund regarding a grant of £500 and a loan of £1000 made by the Fund towards the publication of The Royal Asiatic Society: Its History and Treasures. Nine letters, dated 18 April 1977-8 February 1982.
• Letters with E. J. Brill, publisher, regarding estimates for printing The Royal Asiatic Society: Its History and Treasures, a special copy produced for the Queen, and subsequent delivery of printed copies. Eight letters, dated 2 October 1975-18 March 1980.
• Note to A. D. H. Bivar regarding contacting the International Union for oriental & Asian Studies about a grant towards the publication of The Royal Asiatic Society: Its History and Treasures, with Bivar’s reply explaining the context and difficulty of the application, dated 7 April 1980.
• Note from Stuart Simmonds to Dennis Duncanson reporting on the meeting with E. J. Brills regarding pricing, distribution and other matters relating to the publication of The Royal Asiatic Society: Its History and Treasures, undated.
• Notices for supplying copies of The Royal Asiatic Society: Its History and Treasures to the Agent for the Legal Deposit Libraries under the Copyright Act, dated 19 January 1980.

Correspondence concerned with the Journal sent and received in the 1970s and 1980s. These are:

• Correspondence between the Royal Asiatic Society, W.E.D. Allen and Professor G.A. Daniyalov, Vice-President of the Daghestan Filiale of the Soviet Academy of Sciences concerning asking Daniyalov to write an article for the Journal on his archaeological discoveries at the Aul of Arakanee in the distirct of Kumukh, Central Daghestan. 7 letters, dated 8 November 1971 - 22 May 1972.
• Correspondence between the Royal Asiatic Society and Sir Max Mallowan, John Burton-Page and Sir Mortimer Wheeler, regarding the delay in the publication of a special JRAS issue dedicated to Sir Mortimer (Volume 102, Issue 2, April 1970). B. W. Robinson, RAS President, wrote to Sir Max to explain the delay but he demanded further explanation from Burtin-Page, editor of the Issue. A sherry party was arranged on 8 June to present the issue to Sir Mortimer. 13 letters, 18 pieces, dated 15 March-21 April 1972
• Correspondence concerned with a specially bound edition of the Journal in honour of Sir Mortimer Wilson for His Imperial Majesty, Mohammed Reza Shah Pahlavi. Two letters, dated 15 and 23 June 1972.
• Correspondence between the Royal Asiatic Society and Anthony R. Walker concerned with the possible publication of his paper on the Red Lahu people in the hills of northern Thailand. 3 letters, dated 2 - 21 February 1972.
• Correspondence between the Royal Asiatic Society, F.R.C. Bagley, Mrs M.N. Bagley and C.E. Bosworth concerned with the possible publication of an article by F.R.C. Bagley, Lecturer in Persian Studies, University of Durham, about Khuzestan, written after a visit to the region. 5 letters, dated 28 October - 4 December 1972.
• Correspondence between Friedhelm Hardy and Simon Digby concerned with the possible publication of Hardy's article on Madhavendra Puri. 2 letters, dated 2 -13 November 1972.
• Letter from Charles Beckingham, Hon. Editor, to Dennis Duncanson, Chairman of the Publications Committee, regarding the possible payment of book reviewers. He also suggests that David Morgan might be a suitable candidate to work alongside him, and then replace him as Editor of the Journal. 1 letter, dated 10 April 1984.

Signed minutes of the Finance Committee, 1965-1977, 1979-1980. The typed minutes are pasted into a hardcover ruled notebook with black cover and red binding. This is labelled as "Finance Committee (incorporating Investment, Possessions and Development Committees)". With this minute book is some correspondence:

• Correspondence concerning Membership and subscriptions, 15 items, dated 21 May 1965-23 September 1965.
• Correspondence concerning investment as a charity, 3 items, dated 6 March 1967-10 March 1967.

Letter from B.W. Robinson to C.F. Beckingham in support of the proposal by Barwis-Holliday.

Letter from C.F. Beckingham to J. Edward Barwis-Holliday to give the decision of the Council to accept with gratitude his proposed Award. Beckingham sets out the terms of the award as decided by the Council.

Letter from C.F. Beckingham, President, Royal Asiatic Society to B.W. Robinson to enclose a copy of the letter from Barwis-Holliday proposing the Award and commenting favourably on it.

In commemoration of the Sesquicentenary, the Royal Asiatic Society considered a number of publications. This material contains some draft material for publications an correspondence concerning publications.

Letter from Stuart Simmonds, President, Royal Asaitic Society, to Phil, School of Oriental and African Studies, to thank him for SOAS agreeing to host the Symposium and to ask whether they might also host a Sherry reception for the participants, dated 19 July 1973. Further correspondence accepting the invitation to the Sherry reception held at the Committee Room, School of Oriental and African Studies, on 24 July 1973. These are from Dr. R.D. Barnett, Mr G.A. Calver, Mr & Mrs J.T. Hooker, Professor and Mrs C.F. Beckingham, Sir Mortimer Wheeler, and Mrs J.M. Witt.

Lease agreements and correspondence concerning the residential flat on the second floor of 56 Queen Anne Street. These include:

• Correspondence regarding the setting of the rent in 1958. The tenant Richard Bailey had taken a 13 year lease in 1947 and in 1958 began to inquire as to whether his tenancy would be renewed.
• Correspondence with Richard Bailey regarding the renewal of his lease in 1962
• Lease Agreement between the Royal Asiatic Society and Richard Bailey for the 2nd floor flat, dated 28 February 1962.
• Correspondence regarding Richard Bailey leaving the flat in 1964 and the tenancy being taken on by Dr A.A. Alderdice.
• Letter concerning the surrendering of the lease by Dr Alderdice in 1965.
• Correspondence regarding a Dr Layard assigning the remainder of his lease to Mr Hugo Alyasha Kensho, 1968.
• Correspondence regarding the relinquishing of the lease by Layard and its reassignment to Messrs Parry and Norris, 1970.
• Letter from the solicitor informing the Society the retirement of one of their partners and the subsequent relocation of their office, dated December 1976.
• Correspondence regarding Mr Norris's guests and his damage of the property, 1976 -1978.
• Correspondence regarding the tenancy of Professor Charles Beckingham, potential conflict of interest as a member of the Society and his subsequent relinquishment of the flat when the Society vacated the premises, 1978 -1988.

The correspondence is primarily between the Royal Asiatic Society, the tenants, and their solicitors.
