The Library Committee of the Royal Asiatic Society is part of the organisational structure of the Society and has oversight for the Society's Collections. This material contains the Minutes of its Meetings along with Reports and Papers presented at the Meetings and some significant correspondence.

• "Some Thoughts on the Library of the Royal Asiatic Society" by B C Bloomfield, dated 6 October 1980. With this is a report on "Alternative Premises for the Royal Asiatic Society" by Simon Digby with plans and dimensions of rooms.

It appears that the Library Committee was not active at this time. However there are several letters concerning the oversight of the Library. These are:

• Letter from Anthony Bennell to B.C. Bloomfield to include a draft to restimulate the Library Policy Committee. Typed letter with Draft Note from Director, Royal Asiatic Society to Honorary Librarian, dated 21 July 1981.
• Letter from B C Bloomfield to Anthony Bennell in which he gives his priorities for the Society's care of its collections. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 27 July 1981.
• "A Note from the Hon. Librarian" Report by Simon Digby on the Collections of the Society and possible projects for their care. Typed, undated.
• "Draft Note by the Director" concerning the collections and use of the Library. Typed, undated.
• Letter from Director to Honorary Librarian addressing some of the issues in relation to the Library. Typed, dated 11 September 1981.
• Letter from Selkirk to Anthony Bennell regarding government assistance with the Collections. Typed with handwritten annotations, dated 11 November 1981.

The Library Committee was still in abeyance but there are several items connected with Library governance:

• "Meeting of the Council, 1 April 1982" - report by Dr. M.A.N. Loewe on "The Role of the Royal Asiatic Society" which was circulated for this meeting and concerns the Collections. Typed.
• Letter from G.R. Smith to Miss Gibson, Secretary Royal Asiatic Society, to give his opinion on Dr. Loewe's report. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 19 March 1982
• Letter from B.C. Bloomfield to Anthony Bennell to give his opinion on Dr Loewe's report and to offer his services for a Library Committee. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 23 March 1982.
• RAS Library Committee: List of Periodical for Consideration, 24 September1982. Typed list.

• "Financial Decision of the Library Committee 13/1/83" - photocopy of a handwritten list concerning Library Expenditure. Signed by G.A. Calver, Honorary Treasurer.
• Letter from B.C. Bloomfield to Gordon A Calver to give some assessment of requirements for library storage. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 27 September 1983.
• Minutes of the Library Committee for 8 December 1983.

The material for this year contains:

• Letter from B.C. Bloomfield to Godfrey Goodwin, Director of Royal Asiatic Society, to send information concerning the national inter-lending scheme. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 2 February 1984. With this letter is a copy of one from M.B. Line to Bloomfield explaining the procedure.
• Letter from Anthony Bennell to Director, Royal Asiatic Society, to state that he would be unable to attend the Library Committee Meeting that had been called for 7 and 8 March. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 21 February 1984.
• Letter from Dr. G.S.P. Freeman-Grenville to Charles to provide the details of a bookbinder. Typed letter, dated 16 April 1984. With this is a further typed note of a letter sent to the book binder, dated 24 May, 1984.
