"Photos of Himal-races". List of photographs of different ethnic tribes of the Himalayas. Single piece of papers enclosed within a large paper folded as a packet which also has similar list written on it. Also enclosed is a newspaper header for The Bengal Hurkaru for 27 May 1854 on which Hodgson has written "Nepal series No. 1 to 26 Besides duplicates. Nov 79". Handwritten and printed material, 3 pieces, dated 1854-1879.

This series contains published material written, by Brian Houghton Hodgson and others pertaining to his interest in Languages and Ethnography, which were present within his Papers. Many contain extensive annotations in Hodgson's hand.

"The Aborigines of India" by Brian Houghton Hodgson. Printed by J. Thomas, Baptist Mission Press, Calcutta, 1847. Title page gives name of work as "Essay the First: Kocch, Bódo and Dhimál Tribes in Three Parts. Part I - Vocabulary, Part II - Grammar, Part III - Location, Numbers, Creed, Customs, Condition, and Physical and Moral Characteristics of the People". This work is heavily annotated by Hodgson, possibly a proof copy in which he is writing corrections. Printed bound book with handwritten material, 1847.

"Hodgson's Himalayan Ethnography in 3 fascicles - presented to the Library of the Royal Asiatic Society by the author." "Comparative Vocabulary of the Languages of the broken Tribes of Népal". The book covers many of the dialects of the region. The book begins with a letter from Hodgson explaining that he is sending four series of Vocabularies of Himalayan tongues divided into 2 parts. This copy is annotated by Hodgson and also contains a loose leaf of manuscript. The book is 270 pages and is dated 4 October, 1857. Printed bound book with handwritten annotations. (Some of the items in BHH/6 correspond to this printed material).

"Essays on the Languages, Literature, and Religion of Nepál and Tibet: together with further Papers on the Geography, Ethnology, and Commerce of Those Countries by B.H. Hodgson". Published by Trübner & Co., London, 1874. A series of 16 essays written by Hodgson. The book is heavily annotated and on the title page he suggests that this is Volume 1 of 3, the others being published in 1879. Also within the book is a loose sheet between pp.144-145 containing extra notes; a further sheet of notes at page 1 of Part II; a newspaper cutting from the "Naval and Military Gazette" of 10 January 1876 concerning the Ghurkhas between pp. 40-41 of Part II; a newspaper cutting from the Athenaeum of 24 March 1877 concerning a meeting in which it was reported that Hodgson had talked about the broken tribes of Nepal between pp.44-45 of Part II; a printed sheet with an article from The Phoenix - "The Northern Frontagers of China" by Henry H. Howorth between pp. 66-67 of Part II. On the front cover "Own Copy" has been written in ink and the interior has many annotations. Hardbound printed material with handwritten annotations, 1874.
