Biographical history
Christopher Gimson joined the Indian Civil Service in 1911 and spent most of his career in Manipur, India, eventually becoming Political Agent there in 1933. He retired in 1947 and returned to Leicester, where he died in 1975. He was president of the Leicester Literary and Philosophical Society 1955–56.

Letter from Christopher Gimson to William Pettigrew to say that Yumjao Singh has some new material to add to the monograph. He encloses letters between him and the India Office in which he recommends Yumjao Singh to Mr Stuart Wolfenden, a specialist in Tibeto-Burman languages looking for a pandit in Imphal with knowledge of old Manipuri. Typed, three letters, dated 6-29 August 1936.
