Zonder titelLetter from J.D.M. Derrett to the Librarian, Royal Asiatic Society, to ask if the Society has the book Cave Temples of India by J. Fergusson and J. Burgess and whether the Librarian would xerox a passage. He also ask for a xerox from Buddha-Legends by R. Seydel and an article from East and West, 1967.
Zonder titelLetter from J.D.M. Derrett to Michael Pollock, Librarian, Royal Asiatic Society, to thank him for sending the copy of the Fergusson and Burgess book and to ask for the address of the Warburg Institute where Pollock had found the Seydel reference.
Zonder titelLetter from J.D.M. Derrett to Michael Pollock, Librarian, Royal Asiatic Society, to thank him for the material from the Warburg Institute. Derrett comments on what he has learnt from the Fergusson and Burgess book concerning sculptures found in the village of Jamālgarhi including three distinctly Christian scenes. The sculptures had been on display in London in 1880 but have since disappeared. He also comments upon his theory of Christ being recognised as a Bodhisattva, and in a postscript mentions how Turner, Director of SOAS, had doubts about Derrett's 'powers'.
Zonder titelLetter from J.D.M. Derrett to Michael Pollock, Librarian, Royal Asiatic Society, to express his continuing concern about the Christian sculptures, for although he has sent off the proofs for his forthcoming book, he may be able to make an addition if more information could be found. He therefore asks Pollock to look for The Gandhara Sculptures by J. Burgess in the Journal of Indian Art and Industry, 1900, H.C. Ackermann's Narrative Stone Reliefs and anything more he can find on these scenes.
Zonder titelLetter from J.D.M. Derrett to Michael Pollock, Librarian, Royal Asiatic Society, to thank for his research and asks for him to send the rest of the first article. He also asks whether the Society has Grünwedel's Buddhistische Kunst in Indien, 1993 and a copy of Indian Antiquary, pp. 249ff. He writes that his second proofs for Bible and the Buddhists are due which will definitely be his last book published. In a postscript he asks for an article from the Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal.
Zonder titelLetter from J.D.M. Derrett to Michael Pollock, Librarian, Royal Asiatic Society, to make his comments on the Grünwedel book that Pollock had sent him and how the book fits with his continuing research on the sculptures at Jamālgarhi. He writes that his 42nd book will be his last but that his fascination with India and primitive Christianity remains.
Zonder titelLetter from J.D.M. Derrett to Michael Pollock, Librarian, Royal Asiatic Society, to state that he needed a new area of research after his publication, Bible and the Buddhists reached its penultimate stage. He is intending to write an article entitled, 'Christ and Bodhisattvas: absolvers of dead sinners'. He asks whether the Society has two apposite publications, Kāranda-vyūha edited by S. Samasvami, and the Sanskrit text of the Saddharma-pundarīka.
Zonder titelLetter from J.D.M. Derrett to Michael Pollock, Librarian, Royal Asiatic Society, to ask for some xeroxes of material from the Pali text Society and to ask him to discover if the Society has received a copy of his Bible and Buddhists for review, suggesting Richard Gombrich might be a good reviewer.
