Yumjao Singh was in charge of the state printing press of Manipur. In the early 1930s, he worked as an assistant of William Pettigrew conducting research on archaic Manipuri.

Copy letter from Yumjao Singh to Christopher Gimson to say that the three folios from the Manipuri manuscript are part of a treatise on Shibika, a book on astrology. He writes about the classification of the work and about the subject. He further writes about the history of European arrival in Manipur and asks if Pettigrew could procure more information for him. Typed, dated 9 July 1937.
