Camberwell College of Arts is now part of the University of Arts, London. It was established as the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts in 1898, and adopted its present name in 1989.
Jane McAusland is a conservator and restorer of art on paper. She has had her own private practice, now based in Suffolk, since 1970. With others, she founded the Institute of Paper Conservation in 1976. In 1977 she was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to do further study in the USA. Over the next two years she worked on the collection of HM the Queen in Windsor Castle, particularly on the Holbein drawings. She is a Fellow of the International Institute for Conservation (IIC) and was a member of the Council. She has worked on private collections internationally and for museums both large and small as well as dealers and advises the London auction houses. Herbert Chatley was a civil engineer. In 1907 he wrote the book, The Problems of Flight. After marrying in 1907 he went to China as Professor of Civil Engineering at Tangshan. In 1915 he moved to Shanghai and held engineering appointments there until his retirement in 1937. On the outbreak of the Second World War he was employed by the military and involved in the preparation of Mulberry Harbour. In China he became interested in astronomy and became an authority on Chinese astronomy publishing several articles.
John Duncan Martin Derrett was Professor of Oriental Laws at the University of London, from 1965 to 1982, and afterwards Emeritus Professor.
Derrett was educated at Emanuel School, London, Jesus College, Oxford and the School of Oriental and African Studies, London, before studying law at the Inns of Court School, London. He was called to the bar, Gray's Inn, in 1953. He is the author of a number of works on law and the history of systems of law, India, religion (particularly Christianity) and comparative religion. In his later life he was particularly interested in comparisons of Christianity with Buddhism. Derrett also translated works by others into English.
