Charles Watkin Williams Wynn was President of Royal Asiatic Society from 1823-1841.
Lieutenant Colonel Charles Stoddart was a British officer and diplomat. He was born in Ipswich and educated at Norwich School and later commissioned into the Royal Staff Corps from Royal Military College, Sandhurst, in 1823. He served under Mr Ellis, and Sir J. McNeill, ambassadors in Tehran and played a part in the release of Herat from siege in 1838. From Herat he was sent to Bukhara but was imprisoned by the Emir Nasrullah Khan. In 1941 Captain Conolly tried to secure his release but instead both were beheaded on 17 June 1942

Charles Athanase Walckenaer (1771-1852) was a French civil servant and scientist. He was elected a member of the Institut de France in 1813, was mayor (maire) in the 5th arrondissement in Paris and secretary-general of the prefect of the Seine 1816-1825. He was made a baron in 1823. In 1839 he was appointed conservator for the Department of Maps at the Royal Library in Paris and in 1840 secretary for life in the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres. He was one of the founders of the Société entomologique de France in 1832. He introduced the English form of biography into French literature.
